Johnson Reveals What Could SINK Trump’s Presidency

    Published on

House Speaker Mike Johnson admitted on Tuesday night what Democrats have been saying for months: if Republicans lose the House in 2026, Donald Trump’s presidency is effectively over.

“If we lost the midterms — heaven forbid — if we lost the majority in the House, it would be the end of the Trump presidency in real effect,” Johnson told Newsmax after Trump’s State of the Union address.

The Louisiana Republican said he’s “very bullish” about GOP chances (based on what polling reality we’re not sure) but argued Trump needs a full four years “not just two” to “fix the mess” he claims the president inherited from Joe Biden. “So we’ve got to keep this going,” Johnson said.

There’s just one problem with that framing: Trump inherited a stable economy from Biden. The border was a genuine challenge, sure, but in just over a year, Trump has managed to create chaos across nearly every sector of American life — from mass deportations to trade wars to gutting federal agencies.

Johnson’s comments amount to a tacit acknowledgment of something Republicans don’t like to say out loud: their entire agenda depends on maintaining a House majority that’s hanging by a thread. Democrats need to flip a relatively small number of seats to take back the chamber, and Trump’s cratering approval ratings aren’t helping.

Some analysts think a 40-seat Democratic flip is likely. Others are floating the possibility of a 100-seat wave — which would be historic.

The common thread in all these predictions? Trump himself is the problem.

Johnson also praised Trump’s marathon speech, suggesting it could have gone even longer than its record-breaking length. He slammed Democrats as “shameful” for daring to criticize the president in the chamber, going so far as to suggest they should have been “ejected.”

The irony of Johnson warning about losing the House while defending a speech packed with lies and self-congratulation seems lost on the Speaker. But then again, self-awareness has never been the GOP’s strong suit.
