ICE is NOT Happy that Kilmar Abrego Garcia is Making TikToks

    Published on

A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson is publicly melting down because a man the government wrongfully deported to an El Salvador mega-prison has the audacity to… post TikToks.

WHAT’S GOING ON: DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin reposted a video from MAGA YouTuber Benny Johnson showing a video Kilmar Abrego Garcia posted, writing: “So we, at @DHSgov, are under gag order by an activist judge and Kilmar Abrego Garcia is making TikToks. American justice ceases to function when its arbiters silence law enforcement and give megaphones to those who oppose our legal system.”

Let’s be absolutely clear about what happened here: The Trump administration wrongfully deported Abrego Garcia—a Maryland construction worker who’s lived in the U.S. for years with his American wife and child—to El Salvador’s notorious CECOT prison in March. A judge ordered him returned to the U.S. He’s now free after a federal judge determined the government had no viable plan for deporting him again.

And DHS is mad that he’s posting… Christian worship songs?

BUT BUT BUT: McLaughlin’s complaint about the “gag order” is particularly rich. That gag order exists to prevent government officials from prejudicing the public against Abrego Garcia before trial—and senior DHS officials, including Secretary Kristi Noem herself, have worked overtime to smear him, calling him a “monster,” a human trafficker, a domestic abuser, a child predator, and an MS-13 gang member.

Abrego Garcia has not been convicted of any crimes and denies any gang involvement. Earlier this month, his lawyers accused a Border Patrol officer of repeatedly violating the gag order by calling him an “alien smuggler” and “wife beater” on national television.

OF COURSE: After being forced to bring Abrego Garcia back, the Trump administration immediately tried to deport him again—considering Uganda and Liberia, countries he has zero connection to. Last week, a judge ordered that Abrego Garcia must remain free while she considers his case—adding she was “growing beyond impatient” with government misrepresentations in her court.

WHY IT MATTERS: On Tuesday, a federal judge canceled Abrego Garcia’s Tennessee trial and scheduled a hearing for late January to examine whether prosecutors have been acting vindictively and selectively targeting him.

The government’s response to getting caught wrongfully deporting someone hasn’t been accountability—it’s been a sustained campaign of character assassination and bureaucratic retaliation.

And now they’re mad that their victim is singing hymns on social media while they’re bound by the same rules of fair trial they’ve been flagrantly violating.

Some online want him to go even further and use his platform to speak out against the administration.

BOTTOM LINE: When your complaint is that a man you wrongfully imprisoned in a foreign mega-prison is now free to post TikToks while you can’t publicly smear him anymore, you’re not the victim in this story. You’re the bully who got caught.
