Vice President JD Vance stood in front of the White House press corps on Thursday and accused them of “lying” about an ICE agent fatally shooting an American mother—despite multiple videos capturing the incident from different angles that contradict the administration’s version of events.
WHAT’S GOING ON:
Vance launched into what The Daily Beast described as an “unhinged rant” against CNN and the “corporate media” over their coverage of the Minneapolis shooting that killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, a U.S. citizen and mother of three.
"JD Vance is disgusting. He lies with such ease, with such little compunction. He is unburdened by decency, morality, shame." –Dan Pfeiffer on JD Vance's press conference about ICE's shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. pic.twitter.com/6MIy0lIl4c

The VP specifically attacked a CNN headline that read “Outrage After ICE Officer Kills U.S. Citizen in Minneapolis.” Vance called the coverage “an absolute disgrace” and insisted Good’s death should be framed as “an attack on federal law enforcement,” “an attack on law and order,” and “an attack on the American people.”
He called he felt bad for Renee Nicole Good, not because she was killed, but because she was a “victim of leftwing ideology.”
He even claimed—with zero evidence—that Good “was part of a broader left-wing network to attack, to dox, to assault, and to make it impossible for ICE officers to do their job.”
Her ex-husband says she had just dropped off her youngest child at school before the deadly encounter.
BUT BUT BUT: Here’s the thing: Video footage from the scene tells a very different story than the one Vance and the administration are selling. The footage shows an ICE agent opening fire through Good’s front windshield and side window as her car rolled forward.
It directly disputes Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s claim that multiple agents were at risk of being run over.
President Trump went even further into fantasy land, claiming the ICE agent was run over, hospitalized, and that it was “hard to believe he is alive.”
The video shows the officer moving out of the vehicle’s way and pacing around the scene, clearly uninjured.
CNN’s Chief White House Correspondent Kaitlan Collins wasn’t having it. “Vance is attacking CNN for an accurate and straightforward headline about what’s happening in Minneapolis,” she posted.
THE DETAILS: Vance’s complaint that media outlets omitted that the agent had been hospitalized after being dragged by a car in a previous incident? That detail wasn’t made public until late Wednesday—after much of the initial coverage was already published.
Three shots were fired at Good: one through the far left of her windshield, two through her side window after the agent had moved to the car’s side. She was shot in the head.
Like Vance, Good had three children. Unlike Vance, she’s dead.
WHY IT MATTERS: “She was trying to ram this guy with her car. He shot back. He defended himself,” Vance declared, telling reporters who disagree that they “should be ashamed of yourselves. Every single one of you.”
This is the administration’s playbook in action: when video evidence contradicts their narrative, attack the messengers. When a federal agent kills an American citizen, call the victim a domestic terrorist. When questions arise about the use of deadly force, accuse the press of lying.
The Trump administration isn’t just defending this shooting—they’re using it to wage war on anyone who dares report what actually happened.
