Trump, 79, has yet another excuse for his bruised hands

    Published on

The White House has a new excuse for the bruises that keep appearing on Donald Trump’s hands—and this one doesn’t quite hold up either.

Press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that the purple, blue, and red mark on the back of Trump’s left hand appeared Thursday after he “struck his hand on a corner of the signing table” during a ceremony in Davos, Switzerland.

Just one problem: MSNOW reviewed footage of the event and couldn’t find any moment where Trump actually bashed his hand.

THE DETAILS: The bruise showed up during a signing ceremony for Trump’s newly formed “Board of Peace,” intended to oversee rebuilding in Gaza. Photos and videos from the beginning of the event don’t show the bruising, and White House officials said it wasn’t visible in photos from Wednesday either.

A White House official told Fox News that the 79-year-old president is “more prone to bruising” because he takes a daily aspirin. Sure.

OF COURSE: This is far from the first time the White House has offered dubious explanations for Trump’s hand bruises. Last February, they blamed a bruise on his right hand on “shaking hands all day, every day.” In July, Leavitt announced a “thorough evaluation” had discovered Trump has “chronic venous insufficiency”—a condition common in people over 70. A month after that, back to blaming handshakes for yet another bruise on his left hand.

Last month, Trump showed up to a Cabinet meeting with two large Band-Aids on his right hand, though that got overshadowed by the fact that he appeared to doze off during the meeting.

WHY IT MATTERS: The endless parade of explanations has inspired widespread skepticism—especially after Trump had two “routine yearly check-ups” in a single year. CNN’s Jake Tapper suggested last month that “there is something going on with his health that they’re not telling us.”

Stephen Colbert offered his own theory in October: Trump’s notorious McDonald’s obsession. “He apparently pulls his Filet-O-Fish straight out of the fryer, which is why his hand looks like that.”

The American public is entitled to know if the president of the United States has health issues affecting his ability to serve. But the White House seems more interested in spinning increasingly unbelievable stories than providing transparency. When your explanations keep changing and the footage doesn’t match the narrative, people are going to have questions.
