French Media Suggests Trump Leaked Intelligence to Russia

    Published on

France now provides two-thirds of the intelligence support Ukraine receives from foreign partners, according to President Emmanuel Macron — a stunning shift that points to something deeply troubling about America’s role in the war.

WHAT’S GOING ON: Speaking at the Istres air base on January 15, Macron announced that where Ukraine had been “overwhelmingly dependent” on American intelligence just a year ago, Paris now supplies the bulk of it. A French defense ministry official described much of the contribution as intelligence “of technical origin” — satellite imagery, signals intercepts, the works.

That’s a massive realignment. And it didn’t happen by accident.

THE DETAILS: Here’s where it gets uncomfortable. On French television, former DGSE officer Vincent Crouzet argued that Macron’s remarks amounted to an “official” acknowledgment that Ukraine has pulled back from intelligence exchanges with the United States because of fears of leakage to Moscow.

Let that sink in: Ukraine — fighting for its survival against Russia — may now view American intelligence channels as a potential security risk rather than an asset.

This claim hasn’t been independently verified. But that hasn’t stopped the claim from going viral online.

That’s because the context makes it entirely believable. The Trump administration briefly paused intelligence sharing with Ukraine in March 2025, framing it as pressure to force Kyiv into U.S.-led talks with Russia. The freeze was lifted, but Macron’s “two-thirds” figure suggests the damage was already done.

BUT BUT BUT: Surely our allies still trust us? Not exactly.

Dutch intelligence chiefs said in October 2025 they were sharing less information with U.S. counterparts and assessing cooperation “case by case” — specifically citing concerns about politicization and how sensitive material might be handled. Le Monde reported in April 2025 that European intelligence services were increasingly worried about the future of cooperation with Washington, including fears about breaches of the “third party rule” that governs intelligence sharing.

Of course, the U.S. has already faced damaging leaks. The 2023 Discord leak of classified material relating to the war — which Ukrainian officials said benefited Russia — showed that American intelligence security isn’t exactly airtight.

WHY IT MATTERS: The viral claim that Ukraine fed the U.S. false intelligence that then ended up with Russia hasn’t been confirmed. But the fact that it’s even plausible tells you everything about where we are.

When your allies start treating you like a potential leak vector to the enemy, something has gone catastrophically wrong.

France has stepped up with its Composante Spatiale Optique satellite system — high-resolution imagery that Ukraine needs for targeting and battle damage assessment. But even Kyiv’s former intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov admitted in December that Ukraine remains critically dependent on the U.S. for satellite imagery and ballistic missile early warning. Some capabilities can’t be easily replaced.

BOTTOM LINE: Whether or not Trump is directly leaking intelligence to Putin, the perception alone is devastating. America’s closest allies are quietly building intelligence networks that route around Washington. That’s not just embarrassing — it’s a fundamental restructuring of the Western alliance happening in real time, with Ukraine’s survival hanging in the balance.
