Ariana Grande just sang Donald Trump into the ground—or at least, a version of her did.
In a new “Late Show” sketch, digital wizardry places Grande’s Glinda the Good Witch from “Wicked” in front of a sullen Trump, serenading him with a devastating rewrite of the musical’s hit song “Popular.”
The message: he’s deeply, historically unpopular.
“Unpopular, you’re deeply unpopular,” the fake Glinda sings. “Dictators make you smile, so does this pedophile, you sent ICE to the heartland.”
It only gets worse from there: “You tweet racist memes and make children scream with your hideous corpse-like hands.”
The clip opens with a supercut of real news reports detailing Trump’s cratering approval ratings before cutting to Glinda attempting an intervention. She tries to help: “So let’s start turning your poll numbers around.”
Trump—via footage from his State of the Union address—isn’t having it. “These people are crazy,” he says.
Glinda finally gives up. “Never mind.”
The timing is perfect. Trump’s approval ratings have been in freefall, with recent polls showing him underwater even among some Republican voters. A Reuters/Ipsos survey found a surprising number of GOP respondents now think Trump is becoming “erratic with age.”
The sketch isn’t actually Grande singing—it’s a voice impression—but the digital effect of placing her opposite an oblivious, scowling Trump landed exactly as intended. You know it’s fake, the show notes, because Trump actually sits and listens.
