Attorney General Pam Bondi spent over four hours on Wednesday melting down in one of the most chaotic congressional hearings in recent memory—complete with shouting matches, personal insults, and Epstein survivors being completely ignored by the nation’s top law enforcement official.
The House Judiciary Committee oversight hearing was ostensibly about the Justice Department’s work, but it quickly devolved into a series of explosive confrontations over the DOJ’s botched handling of Jeffrey Epstein files and the department’s targeting of Trump critics.
THE HIGHLIGHTS (IT WAS A SH*TSHOW):
- Bondi faced bipartisan criticism for redacting the names of Epstein’s co-conspirators and abusers while somehow failing to protect victims—their unredacted names ended up published in the files.
- When Republican Rep. Thomas Massie—co-author of the bill requiring the Epstein files’ release—asked how victims’ names got leaked, Bondi accused him of having “Trump derangement syndrome” and called him “a failed politician.” (Trump has endorsed Massie’s primary opponent.)
- When Rep. Jamie Raskin asked her, since Trump can sue taxpayers for $10 billion over the release of his tax returns, how much should Epstein survivors get, she also accused HIM of having “Trump derangement syndrome.”
RASKIN: President Trump may have been a little bit embarrassed by the release of his tax return. If Trump can get $10 billion, how much do you think the claims of these Epstein survivors are worth?

- A group of Epstein survivors attended the hearing. Bondi refused to speak to them, look at them, or acknowledge their presence in any meaningful way. When Rep. Pramila Jayapal asked how many Epstein survivors present had been totally ignored by the DOJ, every single one raised their hand. (A stunning photo of the moment went viral.)
- When Jayapal demanded Bondi turn around and apologize to the survivors, Bondi refused—and then pivoted to asking whether Democrats had “apologized to President Trump” for impeaching him.
- Bondi went on a bizarre tangent praising Trump as “the greatest president in American history” and appeared to be reading from prepared talking points designed to please her boss.
- She inexplicably brought up record stock market numbers in another viral moment.
Bondi crashes out over Epstein: "The Dow is over 50,000 dollars! I don't know why you're laughing. You're a great stock trader as I hear, Raskin. The Dow is over 50,000 right now. The S&P at almost 7,000, and the Nasdaq smashing records. That's what we should be talking about." pic.twitter.com/wZVxfnaiUr

- Bondi came prepared with personalized insults for Democratic members. She called Rep. Jamie Raskin a “washed-up lawyer,” accused Rep. Hank Johnson of lacking experience (he’s been in Congress for two decades), and told Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon she “didn’t get anything regarding public safety.”
- Rep. Ted Lieu called Bondi out for perjuring herself. She exploded: “How dare you accuse me of a crime!
Lieu plays Bondi the infamous clip of Trump and Epstein partying together and asks her if there were underaged girls at any party the two attended together

"This is so ridiculous," Bondi says. "There is no evidence that Donald Trump has committed a crime"

- Rep. Becca Balint asked whether Bondi knew about Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s ties to Epstein. Bondi’s response? She accused Balint of being antisemitic. Balint’s grandfather was killed in the Holocaust.
BONDI: You didn't ask Merrick Garland anything about Epstein

BALINT: Weak sauce. Weak sauce.
BONDI: And with this antisemitic culture right now, she voted against a resolution–

- Rep. Chuy Garcia called Bondi the worst Attorney General in U.S. history.
BREAKING: Democrat Chuy Garcia just went SCORCHED EARTH on Pam Bondi calling her one of the worst Attorney Generals in American history and an instrument of Donald Trump's lawless authoritarian agenda. This one has got to hurt.

WHY IT MATTERS:: This hearing laid bare the reality of Bondi’s DOJ: an agency that’s become Trump’s personal revenge machine while actual victims of sexual abuse get ignored. Epstein survivors held a press conference before the hearing, pleading for accountability. “The DOJ needs to do its job,” survivor Dani Bensky said. “Give us the rest of the files and start the investigations.”
Virginia Giuffre’s brother Sky Roberts put it bluntly: “Do your job, Pam.”
Meanwhile, the DOJ is busy pursuing Trump’s critics. Rep. Jamie Raskin noted that “Trump orders up prosecutions like pizza, and you deliver every time”—targeting James Comey, Letitia James, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, and members of Congress. Hours before the hearing, NBC News reported that a federal grand jury had rejected the administration’s attempt to indict Democratic lawmakers over a social media video.
Of course, Trump himself isn’t even satisfied with Bondi’s performance. He’s reportedly complained to aides that she’s “weak” and “insufficiently aggressive” in going after his enemies. The White House had to issue damage-control statements from multiple officials praising her.
BOTTOM LINE: The Attorney General of the United States refused to look at sexual abuse survivors, called a Republican colleague mentally ill for asking legitimate questions, and accused a congresswoman whose grandfather died in the Holocaust of antisemitism—all while running an agency that protects abusers’ names and targets the president’s political opponents. This is what a captured Justice Department looks like.
