Trump Loses It On Yet Another Female Journalist

    Published on

    “What a stupid question.”

That’s how President Donald Trump responded to a female reporter from CNN on Sunday after she asked whether Iran takes his threats seriously—a perfectly reasonable question given the deadly crackdown Iran has launched amid nationwide protests and the regime’s threats to attack U.S. military bases if Trump intervenes.

WHAT’S GOING ON: During a press availability aboard Air Force One, Trump was discussing the escalating situation in Iran.

“If they do that, we’ll consider things, targets, that they wouldn’t believe,” he warned, promising Iran would face “a very, very powerful force” if it attacked U.S. targets.

When the reporter asked if Iran takes his threats seriously, Trump initially engaged, rattling off a list of overseas military actions including the 2020 assassination of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the 2019 strike that killed ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and the recent U.S. military operation in Venezuela that removed President Nicolás Maduro.

Then came the attack: “She says, CNN, ‘Do you think they take your threat seriously,'” Trump repeated in a mocking tone. “Wouldn’t you say they do after all the things we’ve done? What a stupid question.”

OF COURSE: This is part of a well-established pattern. Trump has a long history of attacking reporters, but he’s been particularly vicious toward women who cover him—especially in recent months.

Last month alone, he slammed CNN’s Kaitlan Collins as “always Stupid and Nasty” on Truth Social (misspelling her name in the process). When CBS News correspondent Nancy Cordes tried to ask a question during a Thanksgiving press gaggle, he fired back: “Are you stupid? Are you a stupid person?”

He called Katie Rogers of The New York Times “ugly” after she co-authored a report on his lighter schedule as he ages. He slammed ABC’s Mary Bruce for asking what he called “a horrible, insubordinate, and just a terrible question.” And who could forget his now-infamous insult to Bloomberg’s Catherine Lucey: “Quiet, piggy!”

WHY IT MATTERS: This isn’t just about one president with poor manners. These attacks serve a purpose: delegitimizing the press, particularly female journalists who dare to ask direct questions. Each “stupid question” comment is a signal to his base that accountability journalism is the enemy—and that women asking tough questions deserve public humiliation.

The question wasn’t stupid. It was the job.
