Renee Good’s Family Releases Independent Autopsy Showing Where She Was Shot

    Published on

Renee Nicole Good, the 37-year-old mother of three who was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis earlier this month, was hit by a fatal bullet to the head—entering near her left temple and exiting through the right side—according to independent autopsy findings released by her family’s attorneys.

The independent pathologist identified three clear gunshot wound paths. One struck her left forearm. Another went through her right breast but hit no major organs. The third—the one that killed her—traveled through her skull. A fourth wound was described as a graze consistent with a firearm injury but with no penetration.

THE DETAILS: Good had just dropped her 6-year-old child off at school on the morning of January 7 when she encountered a group of ICE agents while driving home in her maroon Honda Pilot with her partner, Becca Good. A Minneapolis police and fire incident report previously obtained by PEOPLE stated she was found unresponsive in her car with blood on her face and torso around 9:42 a.m.

The independent autopsy was commissioned by Good’s family and conducted by what the law firm Romanucci & Blandin describes as “a highly respected and credentialed medical pathologist.” The firm—which secured the George Floyd family a $27 million settlement with Minneapolis in 2021—says releasing these findings reflects their “continued transparency with the public on this tragedy.”

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office autopsy results still haven’t been released to the family or their legal team.

OF COURSE: The Trump administration has called Good a “domestic terrorist” who deliberately tried to kill ICE agents with her car. Her family categorically rejects that characterization. “She was a beautiful light of our family and brought joy to anyone she met,” her parents told PEOPLE. “She was relentlessly hopeful and optimistic which was contagious.”

The agent who killed her, Jonathan Ross—an ICE firearms instructor and member of the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force—hasn’t been charged with any crime. Federal officials say the FBI will handle the investigation, claiming Minnesota authorities have no jurisdiction.

BUT BUT BUT: Many use-of-force experts have criticized Ross’s actions. “In order to use deadly force, your life or someone else’s life must be in immediate danger,” said Chris Burbank, a former Salt Lake City police chief, who doesn’t believe Good posed any such threat.

WHY IT MATTERS: Lead attorney Antonio Romanucci says the evidence they’re gathering will prove their case. “The video evidence depicting the events of January 7, 2026, is clear, particularly when viewed through the standards of reasonable policing and totality of circumstances,” his statement read.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has called for “a fair, transparent investigation of all of the facts.” Whether that’s possible with the FBI controlling the inquiry remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, Good’s partner Becca is left to pick up the pieces—and raise their son. “I am now left to raise our son and to continue teaching him, as Renee believed, that there are people building a better world for him,” she said.
