Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is now demanding that MAGA supporters acknowledge what video evidence has made clear: federal agents killed an unarmed Minneapolis man after they had already taken his gun.
WHAT’S GOING ON: In a Sunday X post, Greene broke with the Trump administration’s narrative on the killing of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse who was shot dead by Border Patrol agents on Saturday.
The Trump administration claims Pretti “brandished a gun” and agents fired “defensive shots.” But video footage tells a different story: Pretti was holding his phone—not his weapon—when masked agents wrestled him to the ground, took his holstered firearm, and then opened fire.
“Legally carrying a firearm is not the same as brandishing a firearm,” Greene wrote. “I support American’s 1st and 4th amendment rights. There is nothing wrong with legally peacefully protesting and videoing.”
THE DETAILS: Greene went further, urging Trump supporters to imagine how they’d react if the roles were reversed. “We lost our minds when we watched Biden’s FBI track down and aggressively carry out home invasions and arrest on peaceful J6’ers who walked in the Capitol through open doors,” she wrote. The implication was impossible to miss: if you were outraged then, intellectual honesty demands outrage now.
“You are all being incited into civil war, yet none of it solves any of the real problems that we all face, and tragically people are dying,” Greene added.
ZOOM OUT: Greene’s break with Trump on this issue isn’t entirely surprising. Once a diehard MAGA loyalist, she began distancing herself from the Republican Party over what she saw as failures to deliver on promises—including the release of Jeffrey Epstein records. She resigned from Congress in November and officially left office earlier this month.
WHY IT MATTERS: When even Marjorie Taylor Greene—a woman who spent years defending every Trump administration action—is calling out the obvious injustice of federal agents killing a disarmed American citizen, the official story has completely collapsed. The question now isn’t whether this was wrong. It’s whether anyone in power will be held accountable.
