ICE agent who murdered Renee Good told neighbors bonkers lie about what he does for a living

    Published on

The ICE agent who fatally shot 37-year-old mother Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis told his neighbors he was a botanist.

That’s right. Jonathan Ross, 43, the man who fired three bullets through Good’s car window on January 7th as she tried to drive away after dropping her 6-year-old son at school, apparently told people at a 2020 neighborhood garage party that he “worked with plants.”

THE DETAILS: Ross has actually worked for ICE since 2015 as a deportation officer. But according to a neighbor who spoke to People magazine, nobody in his Minnesota exurb knew the Iraq war veteran’s real job until he was identified as Good’s killer.

“He said he worked with plants, as a botanist, so he lied about what he did,” the neighbor said. She added that Ross mentioned he “enjoyed border control… but loved plants.”

Satellite images of Ross’s home show a yellow “Don’t Tread On Me” flag in the yard. Of course.

The neighbor described her reaction to learning the truth: “It really creeps me out that those are my neighbors — that that’s the kind of people I live next to. It’s really upsetting. I just assumed all the ICE agents were like, from Texas and Arizona and Florida.”

She also reported seeing Ross’s belongings being removed from the house by agents the day after the shooting, and noted a patrol car has been stationed at the address.

BUT BUT BUT: The Trump administration has been working overtime to justify Ross’s actions. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem declared in a press conference that Good—a U.S. citizen and mother of three—was trying to harm the federal officer with her vehicle. Trump himself called her “very disorderly” and claimed Ross “shot her in self defense.”

There’s just one problem: videos from multiple bystanders captured the whole thing, and they directly contradict the administration’s version. The footage shows Good’s car positioned in the middle of the street, attempting to drive away from agents, when Ross fired three shots through her window. Her car then skidded through the snow, hitting parked vehicles.

ZOOM OUT: So to recap: An ICE agent who lied to his neighbors about his job for years killed an unarmed American mother in broad daylight—and the President’s response was to smear the dead woman as a “domestic terrorist.” Meanwhile, the guy who actually pulled the trigger is being protected and his belongings quietly moved out of his home.

This is what happens when federal agents operate with impunity and their bosses are more interested in propaganda than accountability. A botanist. He told people he was a botanist.
