In a stunning rebuke of their own voters, 148 House Democrats joined Republicans on Wednesday to send $3.3 billion in military “aid” to Israel while simultaneously banning all U.S. funding for the main agency providing humanitarian relief to Palestinian refugees.
The bill passed 341–79, with Democrats voting 153–57 in favor. Among those backing the measure: House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Rep. Jasmine Crockett.
WHAT’S IN IT: H.R. 7006 is a massive appropriations package covering financial services and foreign policy. But buried in its pages are some of the most aggressive pro-Israel provisions Congress has ever passed. The bill delivers approximately $3.3 billion in additional military and security aid to Israel—with no meaningful human rights conditions attached.
It imposes a total ban on U.S. funding for UNRWA, the United Nations agency that provides food, medical care, and education to millions of Palestinian refugees. Progressive groups are calling it catastrophic for civilians already facing famine conditions in Gaza.
And in what critics are calling a “war on accountability,” the bill bars U.S. funding for or cooperation with any international body investigating Israel’s war crimes—including the International Criminal Court, the International Court of Justice, and the UN Commission of Inquiry.
BUT BUT BUT: Here’s what makes this vote so egregious: Democrats aren’t confused about what their voters want. They simply don’t care.
- A 2025 national poll found that roughly 75% of Democrats opposed more military aid spending for Israel.
- Pew’s 2025 survey showed 77% of Democrats hold an unfavorable view of the Israeli government.
- Only about 12% of registered Democrats said their sympathies lie more with Israel than Palestinians, while large majorities support recognizing Palestine and describe Israel’s actions in Gaza as “genocide” or “akin to genocide.”
These aren’t fringe positions. This is the overwhelming consensus of the Democratic base. And 148 of their elected representatives just told them to pound sand.
THE REACTION: BLM leader Shaun King didn’t mince words: “Yesterday, Congress passed a bill that is so immoral, so corrupt, so plainly colonial, that it should end political careers.”
Whether it actually does remains to be seen. The bill now heads to the Senate for a final vote.
WHY IT MATTERS: This isn’t just about foreign policy. It’s about whether Democratic voters have any actual representation in their own party.
When three-quarters of your base opposes something and you do it anyway—and do it enthusiastically, with 148 votes—that’s not democracy. That’s a party openly serving interests other than its constituents.
The bill funds weapons while blocking food. It arms a military operation the majority of Democrats call genocide while defunding the refugees it creates. And it shields all of it from international legal scrutiny.
Remember this vote.
