Lizzo has a dire warning about celebs and MAGA

    Published on

Lizzo is sounding the alarm: Nicki Minaj’s MAGA turn is just the beginning, and you should brace yourself for more celebrities to follow the money straight to the right.

WHAT’S GOING ON: In a now-deleted TikTok, Lizzo responded to a fan asking about her thoughts on Minaj’s recent appearance at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest—the annual conservative gathering run by Charlie Kirk’s organization.

The “Truth Hurts” singer didn’t mince words: she’s “not surprised” at Minaj’s rightward lurch, and she’s predicting an avalanche of similar defections.

“You’re about to see an influx of people who see that it is more profitable and more beneficial to join that side,” Lizzo warned. “There’s money behind everything. There are privileges behind every move that people in these positions make.”

THE DETAILS: Minaj made a surprise appearance at the Phoenix event on Sunday, sitting down for a Q&A with Turning Point CEO Erika Kirk.

During the disgusting appearance, she praised Trump and JD Vance, attacked California Governor Gavin Newsom, and doubled down on her recent UN speech about Christian persecution in Nigeria. It was the latest stop on what’s become a full MAGA embrace.

Lizzo prefaced her commentary with a disclaimer—”Celebrities’ opinions of other celebrities does not matter”—but then offered what felt like a genuine warning to fans who might be blindsided by future celebrity conversions.

“This is Trump’s first year as president. We got three more years of people who are going to surprise you, and it’s going to hurt your feelings. It’s gonna disappoint you.”

WHY IT MATTERS: Lizzo is naming something that progressive fans have been slow to reckon with: celebrity politics often follow incentives, not principles.

As Trump consolidates power and the cultural winds shift, the calculation for some famous faces becomes pretty simple—alignment with MAGA brings access, protection, and profit. The question isn’t really about individual celebrities’ moral failings; it’s about a system where power rewards capitulation.

BOTTOM LINE: Don’t build your politics around famous people. They’re subject to the same pressures—and temptations—as everyone else. The difference is they have a lot more to gain from switching sides.
