SNL’s Weekend Update scorches Trump’s AI image of himself as Pope

Donald Trump drew fresh backlash Saturday after posting an AI-generated image of himself dressed as Pope Francis—just days after the real Pope’s funeral.

That shameful tweet did have an upside: It gave Saturday Night Live fresh ammunition to lob at the man-child nepo baby.

BACKGROUND: Trump, who attended the funeral of Pope Francis in Rome this week, shared the AI photo of himself wearing papal robes on Truth Social Friday night. The image quickly sparked outrage and ridicule online.

SNL co-anchor Colin Jost zeroed in on the timing, saying: “Who posts a photo of themselves dressed like a guy who died a week ago?”

“Trump was at the Pope’s funeral… that means he walked past an open casket and was like, ‘Oh, we should do a Who Wore It Best.’”

Jost didn’t stop there, twisting the knife with, “If Trump really wants to be Pope, he should probably stay away from JD Vance.”

THE GROANS: The rest of “Weekend Update” took an even darker turn.

Michael Che’s joke about Ye being addicted to nitrous oxide ended with a punchline about the dentist setting the tank “to Nazi”—drawing stunned groans from the crowd.

Jost followed with a cringeworthy bit about a missing fighter jet: “Thankfully there’s nobody at the bottom of the ocean who could use an airplane—Oh, God,” he said, before flashing an image of Osama bin Laden.

Che then “marked” the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War’s end with another wince-inducing line: “Also turning 50: a lot of half-white Vietnamese kids.” As the audience cringed, he deadpanned, “We’re on a roll.”

THE BOTTOM LINE: At least we can laugh will we try to save our country.
