Over the past couple of weeks, the White House has gone to great lengths to conceal the backs of Trump’s hands—both of which have been covered in bruises.

Lackeys for the 79-year-old president insist that the bruising is benign, but the White House’s lack of transparency about the health of one of the oldest presidents ever is a serious concern.

WHAT’S GOING ON: Over the past week, Trump’s hands have repeatedly been photographed covered in smeared-on concealer.

On Monday, while signing executive orders in the Oval Office, Trump kept using his left hand to cover his right. The Daily Beast reports the bruise was still clearly visible at other times, with no makeup to disguise its worrying size and color.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has repeatedly claimed Trump has gotten the bruises from shaking a lot of hands—which may explain one hand, but not the other.

The bruising follows the revelation last month that Trump has Chronic Venous Insufficiency, meaning veins struggle to pump blood from the legs back to the heart.

That’s led to Trump’s swollen cankles—which he’s also gone to great lengths to hide.

WHAT IT COULD BE: To be fair—Trump’s bruised hands could be totally innocuous. With age, skin gets thinner and blood vessels get weaker, leading to more easily bruisable skin.

It could also be a symptom of a much deeper problem, such as a blood clotting problem like hemophilia, liver disease, or blood cancers. Or, it could be from an IV port.

WHY IT MATTERS: If the president has a serious medical condition, the people have a right to know.

Unfortunately, this administration doesn’t even know how to spell truth—let alone give it to the public.

The White House continues to maintain the president is in excellent health—despite two embarrassing gaffes where he made up a governor and forgot the name of an ocean.
