TRIGGER WARNING: Heads up. Our top story this morning and the picture that accompanies it is difficult to read and difficult to see. We believe, however, this is an important story that must be told.

TOP STORY

Babies are starving to death on our dime. Zainab Abu Halib is one of them.

Zainab Abu Halib, a victim of Israel’s genocide in Gaza

Five months ago, Zainab Abu Halib was born into hell on earth: Gaza. Her short life only went downhill from there.

This weekend, she died—a needless death, way too soon—all thanks to the Israeli government and the American taxpayer.

THE STORY: The Associated Press told Zainab’s heartbreaking story over the weekend.

  • Zainab was brought dead to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. Her mother, Esraa, said the baby had dropped below 4.4 pounds—more than two pounds less than her birth weight—after lacking access to vital baby formula.

  • Doctors confirmed she suffered "severe, severe starvation."

Her father Ahmed said the formula she needed didn’t exist in Gaza, cut off from essentials due to Israel’s blockade of aid entering the territory.

ZOOM OUT: Gaza’s health officials report 127 total starvation-related deaths as Israel continues to limit critical supplies from entering the territory—part of its ongoing genocide.

  • The U.N. and aid groups say 500+ trucks are needed daily. Israel allows in 60 or less per day.

Doctors say hundreds of other children are wasting away in overcrowded clinics with no medicine, formula, or food.

THE LATEST: Under international pressure, Israel has reportedly started letting in more aid. But U.N. officials and aid groups say more needs to be done.

BIG PICTURE: Israel’s supporters commonly argue that if Hamas released the hostages, the assault on Gaza would end.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly rejected that, saying he wants to destroy Hamas.

BOTTOM LINE: There’s one country with the power to stop Israel—ours. But it will only act if we force our politicians to stop writing blank checks and start demanding real accountability for every dollar.

Bipartisan pair will force vote on releasing Epstein files after recess

Reps. Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie are teaming up to compel a House vote that could make the Epstein files public—despite Trump’s attempts to block or distract from them. With his name reportedly in the documents, Trump is now suing The Wall Street Journal and facing growing heat from both allies and critics. The move could split Republicans between protecting the powerful and doing right by victims. Full story from the Wall Street Journal.

Tens of Thousands March Against GOP’s ‘Big Ugly Bill’

On Saturday, tens of thousands rallied in over 225 cities to protest Trump’s budget that slashes health care and food aid while making ICE the most funded law enforcement agency in U.S. history. From beach protests in California to a Medicaid motorcade in Indiana, families showed they won’t stay quiet while billionaires get richer off their pain. Full story from Common Dreams.

Trump using AI tool to gut half of federal regulations

A new AI program created by DOGE is being used to eliminate half of all federal regulations—with no public debate. Internal documents show the tool has already slashed rules at HUD and the CFPB, raising alarm that billionaires are outsourcing government to algorithms. Trump’s team claims it’ll save “trillions,” but critics say it’s a fast-track to deregulation by machine. Full story from The Washington Post.

ICE took half their work force. What do they do now?

The New York Times published a gripping read this weekend that looked at a small business in Nebraska that was doing everything right—and still got raided by Trump’s Gestapo. Worth the read if you have the time. Full story from The New York Times (unlocked for our readers).

IN DEPTH

Trump once ‘hated’ vacations—not any more

Donald Trump once mocked presidents for taking vacations. Now he's in Scotland for five days, golfing and promoting his luxury resorts while calling it a “working trip.”

THE DETAILS: Trump is staying at his family’s properties in Turnberry and Aberdeen—where he played cheated at golf over the weekend and plans to cut the ribbon on a new course opening Aug. 13.

  • The White House insists it’s not a vacation, even as Trump mixes golf, luxury, and photo ops while supposedly conducting diplomacy with UK and EU leaders.

THE HYPOCRISY: Trump wrote in 2004, “Don’t take vacations. What’s the point?” and during his 2016 campaign, he vowed to “rarely leave the White House.”

  • He also criticized Obama’s golf trips, once sneering, “Obama hops onto a 747... and flies to Hawaii to play a round of golf.”

Yet now Trump is doing exactly that—jetting to Scotland to golf, all while claiming he’s conducting foreign policy.

THE SELF-DEALING: Trump’s trip directly boosts his business empire.

  • He’s showcasing the family’s newest golf resort while acting as president—blurring the line between public service and personal profit. Ethics experts are alarmed.

“This is yet another attempt by Donald Trump to monetize his presidency,” political historian Leonard Steinhorn told the AP. “He’s using the trip as a PR opportunity to promote his golf courses.”

WHY IT MATTERS: Unlike past presidents who vacationed domestically or kept business separate from governance, Trump’s second term has become an open advertisement for his brand.

  • From crypto schemes to global real estate deals, the grift never stops.

Even fellow conservatives are quietly uneasy with how Trump constantly bends the office of the presidency to serve himself—and how little his MAGA base seems to care.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Trump once mocked presidential vacations and promised to put America first. But in Scotland this week, the only thing he’s putting first is his golf game—and his bank account.

🗳️ Yesterday’s poll results

On Thursday we asked, is Trump hiding something? You think so—overwhelmingly!

Our friend Chyp voted yes and said: “For sure. Seems they were pretty close friends and shared the same disturbing values. The question is how damning is the information contained within the files. The other concern is the reason for the delay in the release, are they redacting it?”

Kathleen also voted yes: “You can tell how scared he is that the truth of who he really is will be exposed. The question remains will his supporters still worship him after it comes out?”

Galliher voted no but had a GREAT point… “The only reason I say NO is because it’s clear that he’s a p*dophile and a r*pist. It’s not hidden! Do we need more proof than the Katie Johnson claims? The EJ Carroll case?”
