Will Trump be charged?
Jonathan: Hey everyone, Jonathan here at Notice H-Q in Brooklyn. Our top story today is about former President Donald Trump who may soon be criminally charged. Across the river in Manhattan, the district attorney’s office has charged him with a crime. Our Washington correspondent Angie has the full story.
Angie: Former President Donald Trump may soon be arrested – an unprecedented move that has no parallel in American history.
Over the weekend, he sent a message to his followers on his platform Truth Social saying he was going to be arrested – today.
It seems unlikely that Trump will be arrested today. But media report law enforcement officials have been meeting about how an arrest might go down.
The former president is being investigated by several authorities in several places – but it’s the Manhattan District Attorney in New York City who may bring charges first.
It all revolves around a so-called “hush money” payment made at the end of the 2016 presidential campaign.
Authorities allege Trump’s then-lawyer, Michael Cohen, paid a woman on behalf of then-candidate Trump to cover up an extra-marital affair, and that could have been considered an illegal campaign donation.
There are strict rules about what kind of donations and gifts can be given to political campaigns, and there are strict rules about how expenses are reported back to the government.
Intentionally misrepresenting expenses is also a crime.
We don’t know for sure what President Trump will be charged with until if and when he’s actually charged.
But some of the crimes experts think he might be charged with in this case could carry a sentence of up to 4 years in prison.
Trump and his supporters have called this and the other investigations a witch hunt: inappropriate and politically motivated.
Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy: “It doesn’t matter what side of the issue you’re on. It doesn’t matter if this was President Trump or if this was a democrat. It should be equal justice in America, and stop going after people because you have political differences”
All of this is taking place just as the 2024 campaign for president begins, and Trump is one of only two major Republicans to have announced their candidacy so far.
Trump says he’ll continue campaigning even if he’s charged with a crime.

Tiger cub found in trash can
Sadly, it’s not uncommon for people to abandon unwanted pets, but it’s not everyday that you see an animal like this— in a garbage can.
This baby tiger cub was recently found in a garbage can in the parking lot of Attica Zoological Park in Athens, Greece.
Sound: “I was advised by one of the employees … that below one of the bins at the end of the zoo, at the parking in fact, there is this big white cat and he was a bit surprised and I said what do you mean? And he said well come and see so I went there and to my great surprise this big white cat, it was a baby tiger cub. It was in a bad state, it was dirty, it was a bit afraid, it looked thin and dehydrated.”
It’s assumed the cub was a victim of an illegal wildlife trade.
The cub was clearly not well cared for and veterinarians are working hard to save her life.
Sound: “I have read many reports of victims of the illegal wildlife trade but until you see it in front of you, you cannot grasp the severity of the health issues its faced with. It’s very sad… She was probably fed an improper diet, and she is severely deficient in vitamins and minerals, and this makes her bones extremely fragile.”
Exotic pets are actually big business throughout the world, especially here in the United States.
An estimated 3,900 tigers live in the wild, while about 5,000 live in captivity in the United States, according to the World Wildlife Fund.
The head zookeeper in Athens warned that tigers definitely shouldn’t be kept as pets due to their size and killer instinct.
