TOP STORY

‘South Park’ targets Trump again—here’s why it’s important

The brave creative team behind South Park has done it again.

In their second episode of the season that aired last night on Comedy Central, they pulled no punches against Trump’s deeply fascist, deeply racist administration—a vitally important step if we’re going to defeat the MAGA movement.

THE EPISODE: This week’s episode again features Trump as a narcissistic strongman obsessed with Satan—literally—while JD Vance, is shown as a baby-faced servant groveling for approval.

  • Meanwhile, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is depicted as a Botox-laced dog killer, a reference to her real-life 2024 admission—and literal on-screen canine carnage.

  • And Cartman channels Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk, getting caught “master-debating” in a spot-on parody of Kirk’s campus grifting.

WHY IT MATTERS: In a media ecosystem fractured by algorithms and distrust, satires like South Park are breaking our country’s news “brain barrier,” reaching audiences that have tuned out the news. This isn’t just entertainment—South Park has real reach.

When satire punches up, it cuts through the noise. It tells uncomfortable truths in ways CNN or the New York Times simply won’t—because it would hurt their bottom line (which is ultimately ALL that they care about).

THE BOTTOM LINE: If we are going to defeat fascism in America, we will only do it together—and we need people who have tuned out the news to join our cause. Shows like South Park may be the most important way we can reach these people.

WATCH IT: Somebody has posted a full video of the episode on Twitter here (it will probably be taken down soon…)

🗞️ Making News

Trump to meet Putin in coming days with venue to be announced later, Kremlin says

The Kremlin said this morning that a meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin could happen as early as next week—just as Trump’s deadline for Russia to show progress on ending the war in Ukraine approaches. While Trump has threatened new sanctions, critics warn that excluding Ukraine from peace talks breaks from prior U.S. policy and risks legitimizing Putin’s demands as Ukrainian public support for continued war falters. Israel’s genocide has left just 1.5% of Gaza’s farmland still usable

So much for “self defense.” Israel’s ongoing genocide has devastated Gaza’s agriculture, leaving only 1.5% of its cropland accessible and cultivable—down from 4% in April—according to new data from the U.N. With food production obliterated and aid restricted, they warn that Gaza is nearing full-scale famine, thanks to Israel deliberately engineering starvation in violation of international law. New tariffs snap into effect, raising import taxes to highest level since Great Depression

Trump’s sweeping new tariffs—now averaging over 17%—took effect Thursday, raising import taxes on goods from Europe, Japan, China, and more, with U.S. households projected to pay up to $2,400 extra annually. While the administration touts new revenue and investment pledges, economists warn the tariffs are fueling inflation, stalling job growth, and pushing the U.S. toward stagflation. Another health insurance crisis is looming

As Trump touts his sweeping Medicaid cuts, another crisis looms for working class Americans: key Affordable Care Act subsidies are set to expire at year’s end, potentially driving up premiums for millions. While some Republicans hint at a short-term fix, others remain opposed, risking a spike in uninsured Americans and adding to the political fallout from recent Medicaid cuts. Democratic Socialists make major gains in Arizona

Democratic Socialists scored key victories in local Arizona elections, winning one city council primary outright and coming within striking distance in another. The results reflect growing momentum for progressive challengers pushing issues like housing justice, public power, and climate action—even in traditionally capitalist strongholds. IN DEPTH

Americans get more than half their calories from ultra-processed foods

More than half the calories Americans eat come from ultra-processed foods, the CDC confirmed in a new report—the predictable outcome from an economy that cares about profit over everything else.

DRIVING THE NEWS: The CDC found that 55% of all calories Americans consumed between 2021 and 2023 came from ultra-processed foods—with kids getting nearly 62% of their calories from them.

  • That includes burgers, chips, soda, pizza, and frozen “meals” engineered for maximum shelf life—and corporate profit.

SOME CONTEXT: Ultra-processed foods have long been linked to rising rates of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

  • One small but influential study even recently showed that people gained weight eating ultra-processed foods even when matched for calories and nutrients.

THE PROBLEM: But our government—literally controlled by billionaires and Wall Street—hasn’t done much to address this public health crisis.

  • That’s because our entire economic system is built around a singular core idea: maximize profit at the expense of everything else.

Experts say growing awareness helps, but without systemic change, the problem persists.

WHY IT MATTERS: Food in America isn’t made to nourish people—it’s made to generate profit. And when profits depend on people eating more, not better, the result is a sick, overweight, and over-medicated population.

  • Low-income Americans consumed more ultra-processed foods than wealthier people, the CDC said—proving yet again how capitalism targets the poor.

Cheap, addictive, harmful food is all that’s available in many working-class neighborhoods.

WHAT’S NEXT: The FDA and USDA are still debating how to define “ultra-processed food”—a delay that only helps industry lobbyists.

Until we shift the food system away from corporate greed and toward public health, Americans will keep getting poisoned—one bag of chips at a time.

🗳️ Yesterday’s poll results

Yesterday we asked, why is Trump lying about his relationship with Epstein? Again—it was a landslide.

Macourt voted illegal and said: “He knows what he has done and doesn't want it made public. He is no better than Epstein.”

Lily hit the nail on the head: “Everything he does is crooked, illegal, immoral, and MEAN!!!!!”

And we feel for Linda: “He can’t open his mouth without lying, I was married to a pathological liar & he could be 47’s twin”
