Conservatives exploit latest school shooting to demonize trans people

It’s happened again: a deranged shooter who legally purchased their firearms opened fire on a school yesterday—this time during Mass at a Catholic school in Minneapolis.

An eight-year-old and a 10-year-old sitting in the pews were killed, 17 others were injured. The shooter allegedly took their own life.

Despite the fact police are trying to piece together why this happened, transphobic conservatives have already pounced—never missing a beat to demonize a vulnerable minority for the sake of money and power.

WHAT’S GOING ON: Police identified the shooter as 23-year-old Robin Westman, a transgender former student at the school and daughter of a former school employee. Westman had been assigned male at birth.

Despicable conservatives jumped on this single aspect of the shooter’s identity to push their transphobic agenda.

WHAT THEY SAID: Leading the charge was the House of Representative’s most shameful opportunist, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

On Twitter, Greene described being transgender as a “mental illness” and urged Congress to pass legislation that would “make it a FELONY to perform sex change surgeries and all forms of medications on minors.”

Far from being a danger, gender-affirming healthcare greatly benefits the vast majority of children and teens who receive such care.

OH, AND: Not to be outdone, oligarch Elon Musk—who is the deadbeat father of a trans child—took to Twitter claiming there was a pattern of trans mass shooters.

As the Huffington Post pointed out, this is an outright lie. According to the Gun Violence Archive, only 0.11% of mass shooters in the last decade have been trans.

Two Trump cabinet officials, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and FBI Director Kash Patel, also went out of their way to misgender the alleged shooter. (Really classy.)

WHY THEY DO THIS: It doesn’t take a genius to see why Republicans are zeroing in on this one minor aspect of the alleged shooter’s identity.

It’s part of their unrelenting quest to demonize vulnerable minorities to distract away from the failures of capitalism.

Like all fascist projects, Trump’s political movement needs an enemy—a scapegoat—to blame for the shitty state of workers’ lives.

Just like the N*zis before them, MAGA has chosen vulnerable minorities without the means to fight back: poor Brown workers and transgender people.

Yesterday’s demonization of trans people is just the latest in a long line of attacks meant to divert attention away from what’s actually destroying America: late-stage capitalism.

Learn from this investor’s $100m mistake

In 2010, a Grammy-winning artist passed on investing $200K in an emerging real estate disruptor. That stake could be worth $100+ million today.

One year later, another real estate disruptor, Zillow, went public. This time, everyday investors had regrets, missing pre-IPO gains.

Now, a new real estate innovator, Pacaso – founded by a former Zillow exec – is disrupting a $1.3T market. And unlike the others, you can invest in Pacaso as a private company.

Pacaso’s co-ownership model has generated $1B+ in luxury home sales and service fees, earned $110M+ in gross profits to date, and received backing from the same VCs behind Uber, Venmo, and eBay. They even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.

Paid advertisement for Pacaso’s Regulation A offering. Read the offering circular at invest.pacaso.com. Reserving a ticker symbol is not a guarantee that the company will go public. Listing on the NASDAQ is subject to approvals.

🗞️ Making News

White House fires CDC director who defied RFK Jr.’s anti-vaccine agenda

Put the clowns in charge—expect a circus. The Trump White House fired CDC director Susan Monarez after she refused to back Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s crusade to gut vaccine protections. Monarez’s ouster—along with a wave of senior resignations—shows how the administration is dismantling public health to serve conspiracy and profit, putting millions of Americans at risk. Grand jury rejects Trump prosecutors’ sandwich-throwing case

Federal prosecutors failed to convince a D.C. grand jury to indict a man accused of throwing a sandwich at an armed federal agent, the latest embarrassment in Trump’s militarized crackdown on the capital. The rebuke underscores how the administration’s heavy-handed use of troops and federal agents is producing flimsy cases that collapse under basic scrutiny, exposing the political theater behind the so-called crime surge. Hacked emails show Epstein’s deep ties to ex-Israeli prime minister

Newly leaked emails show former Israeli leader Ehud Barak coordinating with Jeffrey Epstein to visit his private island and partner in shady surveillance investments. The correspondence exposes once again how global elites—from politicians to billionaires—moved casually in Epstein’s orbit, using money, sex, and power to reinforce their networks while the public was left in the dark. ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ migrant prison could be empty within days after judge orders shutdown

Some good news: Florida officials admitted the Everglades detention center may be emptied just weeks after opening, following a federal court order to shut it down. Lawsuits exposed horrific abuses inside, from detainees held without charges to overflowing toilets and worms in the food—laying bare how cruelty, corruption, and profiteering drive America’s immigration system. 🛑 End the genocide

As of August 26, Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza—paid for by American taxpayers— has killed at least 62,819 people, including at least 18,430 children.

Of those, 303 were starved to death. (Source)

🗳️ Yesterday’s poll results

Yesterday we asked, given the state of Trump’s hands, is the White House covering something up about Trump's health? It was a landslide.

Mlivingtson voted yes and said: “Of course! No one pushing 80 is in ‘excellent health,’ and anyone with a pair of eyes and half a brain cell can look at him and tell that he is not healthy. And we certainly have plenty of proof on a daily basis about the inability/unwillingness of anyone in his administration to tell the truth about anything.”

Urboj also voted yes: “This administration lies to us constantly… so whatever we’re hearing, it’s probably worse.”

Chef hit the nail on the head: “Not only are they covering up his health issues, they are also covering up the Epstein files. People have been saying that he is on the list. People have been saying that Jeffrey didn't commit suicide either.”
