More texts from Charlie Kirk’s accused killer leak

Accused Kirk killer Tyler Robinson

New text messages allegedly from Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of killing conservative propagandist Charlie Kirk, have emerged, painting a complex picture of the suspect that challenges both left and right-wing narratives about his motivations.

WHAT’S NEW: Court documents released yesterday reveal a series of text messages supposedly between Robinson and his roommate on the day of last week's shooting at Utah Valley University.

The roommate, described by prosecutors as a transgender male transitioning to female who was in a romantic relationship with Robinson, provided the messages to investigators.

THE TEXTS: According to the court filing, Robinson first directed his roommate to look under his keyboard, where a handwritten note allegedly read: "I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I'm going to take it."

The text exchange that followed shows Robinson confessing to the shooting:

Robinson: "drop what you are doing, look under my keyboard."

Roommate: "What?????????????? You're joking, right????"

Robinson: "I am still ok my love, but am stuck in orem for a little while longer yet. Shouldn't be long until I can come home, but I gotta grab my rifle still. To be honest I had hoped to keep this secret till I died of old age. I am sorry to involve you."

Roommate: "you weren't the one who did it right????"

Robinson: "I am, I'm sorry"

When pressed by his roommate about his motivations, Robinson allegedly responded: "I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can't be negotiated out."

The messages reveal Robinson's concern about retrieving a rifle he had hidden, which he described as his grandfather's gun with what he believed was a $2,000 scope. He worried about explaining its loss to his father and left fingerprints on the weapon when he "had to leave it in a bush where I changed outfits."

Robinson also mentioned engraving bullets with messages, describing them as "mostly a big meme," and joked about seeing "notices bulge uwu" on Fox News.

The exchange concluded with Robinson telling his roommate he planned to turn himself in and advising them not to speak to media and to ask for a lawyer if questioned by police.

YES, AND: Beyond the roommate texts, independent journalist Ken Klippenstein has obtained additional Discord messages that complicate the emerging political narrative around Robinson's motivations.

According to Klippenstein's reporting, Robinson's friends describe him as "generally apolitical for the most part" and someone who "just never really talked politics."

The friend told Klippenstein that Robinson's Discord group "represented a range of different political views but mostly talked video games," contradicting right-wing characterizations of it as either a militia or Antifa organizing space.

Klippenstein reports that the phrase "Hey fascist, catch!" found on bullet casings—widely interpreted as a left-wing political statement—is actually a reference to the video game Helldivers 2.

Similarly, three arrows initially thought by federal agents to reference Antifa symbols are also connected to the same game.

BUT BUT BUT: Commentators on both sides of the aisle say they don’t believe the texts released in the court filing are real.

Far-right commentator Candace Owens said she believes the texts are “clearly doctored,” while fellow nut-job Steve Bannon said he’s “not buying” the texts.

Meanwhile, leftist influencer Hassan Piker said the texts are “too perfectly plugging holes for the investigators. unnatural.”

The saga continues.

🗞️ Making News

Hiding behind Kirk, Trump launches ‘biggest assault on the First Amendment’ in modern history

Trump and his cronies are using the killing of Charlie Kirk as cover to launch what Rep. Ro Khanna calls the “biggest assault on the First Amendment in modern U.S. history.” Attorney General Pam Bondi openly threatened to prosecute “hate speech” against conservatives—an unconstitutional move Trump endorsed by vowing to go after journalists. With Stephen Miller promising to “dismantle the left” using federal power, this is less about safety and more about silencing political opponents to cement authoritarian control. DOJ quietly deletes study proving most domestic terrorists are right wing

The Trump DOJ quietly deleted a government study showing that white supremacists and far-right extremists commit the majority of domestic terrorism in the U.S. By erasing evidence and replacing it with propaganda, the administration is turning state power into a tool of capitalist-backed authoritarian control. Black student found hanging at Mississippi campus sparks fears of racial violence

A 21-year-old Black student, Demartravion “Trey” Reed, was discovered hanging from a tree at Delta State University in Mississippi—just 30 miles from where Emmett Till’s body was found in 1955. While police insist there’s “no foul play,” the state’s long legacy of lynching and racial terror makes such assurances ring hollow. The rush to dismiss racial motives shows how institutions often protect themselves instead of confronting the deep scars of white supremacy. Full story from NBC News.

New Poll: Democratic Socialism is now mainstream

A new Jacobin/DSA/Data for Progress poll shatters the establishment myth that socialism is fringe: Democrats prefer democratic socialism to capitalism by a massive 58-point margin, and voters under 45 lean socialist overall. And—majorities across parties—including independents and even many Republicans—say the economy is rigged for the rich, blame landlords and banks for housing costs, and support shifting resources toward social work over policing. 🗳️ Monday’s poll results

Given Trump’s track record on political violence, on Monday we asked, is Trump a hypocrite? Overwhelmingly, you agreed.

Patty voted yes: “Taco boy is the biggest threat to America and anything he says is a lie. He pushed violence, anger and hate to divide and keep the American people in a mist of turmoil. It’s also another way to hide the truth of the Epstein files.”

Alex also voted yes: “You'd have to be deaf, dumb and blind to believe otherwise.”

Carol (and a few others) voted yes and said: “Duh!!!!!!!”
