MAGA leaders are calling for war—not peace—after Charlie Kirk was killed Wednesday in Utah.

Despite a wave of calls from across the political spectrum to tone down the rhetoric, right-wing voices are instead escalating. They’re demanding vengeance and blaming “the left” with zero evidence.

WHERE THINGS STAND: As of this morning, whoever killed Kirk is still at large, and police have not publicly named a suspect. They do believe the shooter acted alone and purposefully targeted Kirk.

The AP reports that law enforcement is working what they called “multiple active crime scenes.”

Despite the fact that no suspect or motive have been named, that hasn’t stopped MAGA Republicans from the President down from blaming “the radical left” and calling for more violence.

WHAT THEY SAID: Fox News, always ready to make a buck off far-right outrage, unleashed Jesse Watters in primetime with a lengthy message of hate that ended with a call for vengeance.

Steve Bannon was just as unequivocal on his own podcast: “We have to have steely resolve. Charlie Kirk is a casualty of war. We are at war in this country. We are.”

Meanwhile, Trump ally and psycho conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer posted this on X: “The best way President Trump can reinforce Charlie’s legacy is by cracking down on the Left with the full force of the government.”

White Christian nationalists are calling for just that—that Trump invoke the Insurrection Act. That would allow him to deploy the military against civilians under the guise of quelling unrest—essentially paving the way for martial law.

BUT BUT BUT: The vast majority of political violence in the United States since its founding has been perpetrated by the far-right.

The list of right-wing violence is long, and it stretches from vigilante lynchings of Black people, to the founding of the KKK, to Oklahoma City, to the failed coup on January 6, 2021.

THE DOUBLE STANDARD: Not to mention, many, including the president himself, were absolutely silent when Democratic state lawmaker Melissa Hortman was assassinated in June.

And when Nancy Pelosi’s husband was violently attacked at their house, Kirk mocked the attack and urged his audience to donate to the suspect’s bail fund.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren had the perfect response when asked about this Republican hypocrisy.

WHAT’S NEXT: The truly terrifying question is—what comes next? Will Trump use this as an excuse to further attack his political opponents? Is this a Reichstag moment?

While Democrats and a handful of Republicans called for transparency, GOP leadership dismissed the effort as a “political stunt.” Never mind, I guess, that they’re protecting rich pedophiles. In an unannounced event at Duke, “comedian” Jerry Seinfeld equated the call to “Free Palestine” with Ku Klux Klan hate, a grotesque distortion that erases Palestinian suffering while whitewashing Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza. His remarks—backed by university sponsorship through Chabad and Duke centers—show how celebrity platforms are weaponized to delegitimize global solidarity movements and protect systems of oppression.
